Decisions and Desires

Rated PG

Will had left a few days ago to go to Starfleet head quarters. They wanted him there to discuss an important assignment they had for him. They were not going to allow him to escape this offer no matter what.

Will called Deanna from Starfleet headquarters.  "I got a promotion and my own ship."

"Will, that's wonderful!"

"Deanna, I want you to come with me."  He said with love and all seriousness.

"Will, my duties are here."

"Yes, but I want you with me. I miss you very much. Besides, Picard is retiring, Beverly is leaving to work at Starfleet Medical, Geordi is going to another ship,"

"OK, Will.  I get the point." Deanna stated with some irritation.  "Our wedding is still months away, though."

"We could move it up. Deanna, I don't want to be without you another day."

"Nor I you, but I don't know if I could get transfered."

"Let me worry about that.  I need a ship's counselor.  Who better than the best counselor in Starfleet, who just happens to be marrying me."

Deanna needed to think.  This sudden change in plans was a bit overwhelming to her.  She wanted to be with her Imzadi so badly and she just couldn't bare the thought of traveling back and forth everytime they got the chance.  Anything could happen.

Imzadi was forever, but their lives were not.  She longed to be with him every minute of the day, but he was away at Starfleet and was going to transfer soon.  He was only to be back aboard the Enterprise long enough to prepare to leave for his ship.  The thought was killing her.

"Oh, Imzadi.  I so much want to be with.  I really do, but it just doesn't seem possible."

"It's up to you.  You decide if you want to come with me and make our wedding date sooner than we had originally planned."

The trips back and forth could be dangerous in themselves.  Life was too short.  They lost many friends over the years, due to death or transfering and drifting apart.  The last thing she wanted was to loose her Imzadi due to frequent space travel.

"Will, I need to think."

"Take your time.  I'll be back soon.  I have to go now, though I don't want to.  I'd rather stay and talk to you."

"I wish you could too. I also need to go. I have another appointment here soon."

"I love you, Imzadi."

"And I love you."

"Until next time."  He knew how she hated saying goodbye, so they made it a habit of saying, "Until next time."

"Until next time, Imzadi."  She said sadly.  Her eyes looked as though she wanted to cry at their parting.

Suddenly, not wanting to drag out the pain of saying goodbye, Riker vanished from the screen.

Deanna now felt restless.  She wanted to see him so badly, in person. Talking to him on the view screen was just not enough anymore.  She loved him so much.  They had been together for so many years and now it seemed forever until their wedding.  So long, in fact, that she thought she could just die waiting for their big event.

She did not know what to do anymore.  All she knew was she had to be with him. She longed to be with him. It was as though a part of her was missing when they were apart. She had no idea what to do or what to say, so she decided to talk to her best friend.

Deanna entered Sickbay and sought out Beverly. "Beverly, I need to talk."

She noticed the distressed look on Deanna's face. "Sure, why don't we go into my office."

Deanna nodded and followed Beverly into her office.  "What is it you need to talk about?" Beverly asked.

"Will, me, our wedding, everything." Deanna said with forelorness in her voice.

"OK, out with it."

Deanna told Beverly everything. About Will's promotion, his asking her to come with him, moving the date of their wedding up to an early date and how much she desired to be with him, but she felt she needed to stay here.

When she was finished, Beverly began to talk. "Deanna, everyone, but you is leaving the Enterprise. You'll be the only original crew member left aboard. You really need to be with Will and I've seen how it tears you up everytime he has to leave for whatever reason. I say, go with him and move your wedding date up."

"Yes, but Beverly, is it really possible?  We've already set the date."

"Who says it can't be changed if two people are desparate to be together?"

Deanna thought for a moment and again thought about how short life was. Again she thought, "Imzadi may be forever, but do we really have forever?"

She thought about how it pained her for them to part everytime they had to leave the Enterprise. She thought about the trips back and forth from one ship to another. Traveling long distances across space. Anything could happen and everything they planned for their future could be snuffed out in an instant. No, she was tired of taking all those chances. Tired of long distant communiques.  Tired of long nights without her Imzadi. Tired of everything it took just to talk to her Imzadi or even to see him.

"No." She thought. "I can't go on like this. I have to be with him and I don't want to be without him another day, if I can help it."

Then she spoke aloud.  "You're right, Beverly. I should snatch the chance to be with him no matter what. I'm going to tell Will tomorrow that I like his idea of moving the date of our wedding up, so we can be together."

"I'm happy for you, Deanna." Beverly smiled, wishing she had a similar offer from the one she loved. "I'll still be there with bells on, for I wouldn't miss this wedding for the world. And besides, from the date Will is talking, I'll still be aboard to come without any problems. Unless, there's a medical emergency of course."

"Let's hope that doesn't happen." Deanna said and the two women giggled with excitement.

"So, when are you going to tell him that you agree that the wedding should be sooner?"

"I'll call him tomorrow." Deanna informed her. "The move from one ship to the other may be a real pain, but it'll be very worth it in the end."

"I'm sure it will." Beverly agreed. "Now about my Maid of Honour dress."

"Yes, what about it?"

"You look gorgeous in pink, but I look horrible in pink.  Red hair and pink just don't go together.  What about blue to match my eyes?"

"What is this? A wedding or a baby shower?"

Beverly giggled. "Yes, your right.  Save the pink and blue until you and Will have your frist child. Which reminds me, are you two planning on having kids right away?"

"No, we want plenty of time to ourselves."

"Probably a smart move. I remember Jack and I had Wesley almost a year after we got married. It was very difficult to find time to ourselves after he was born."

"I bet it was."

"Well, back to the color of my dress.  How about black?"

"No, too much like a funeral."  Deanna said, snubbing her nose at the idea.

"White?"

"Beverly, I'd settled for your dress uniform. It's white, but not quite plain. I think it would be just fine. Besides, Will and I really want a simple Earth wedding. The one my mother is planning on Betazed is going to be fancy enough to make up for both of them."

"Yes, you're right and I have to be naked for that one!"

"Self conscious, Beverly?" Deanna taunted.

"No, just modest." She replied. "But only because I'm Human."

The two women laughed and continued to talk about their dresses for the wedding. They also discussed other details involving the wedding until they both had to return to their duties.
